You could give up.
You could criticise your efforts.
You could walk out on yourself.
Or you could stay.
And remind yourself you’ve got this.
And never walk out on yourself again.
Dr Rebecca Ray
The battle with my own reflection in the mirror has been an ongoing issue for most of my life. In a culture and society where our external image is prioritised over our internal disposition, I have always struggled to find a place of peace in the midst of this battle.
Over the last few years though, I am not sure if it is the result of turning 40, but I am learning to love the skin I am in and I found this quote from Dr Rebecca Ray that describes it perfectly.
You could give up.
You could criticise your efforts.
You could walk out on yourself.
Or you could stay.
And remind yourself you’ve got this.
And never walk out on yourself again.
As women, we are constantly reminded of our looks and the desire in our culture to have the perfect body pre, during and post pregnancy.
I have decided after two children and a long battle with accepting myself just as I am, that I am never going to walk out on myself again.
We are our own greatest critics in our battle with our self-image and physical confidence in the bodies that God gave us.
The way we speak to ourselves in this sensitive area of our lives changes everything.
